Wow. I’m not entirely sure I am ready to answer, but I have to say that the question couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. So I’ll give it a shot, and then possibly refine my answer later on.

1. Learn to live, and be happy, alone. As of a couple of weeks ago, I have two failed marriages behind me. I have never really been alone, and am not sure I really know who I am or what makes me happy. It’s time to find out.

2. Become the adult I should be, and set a better example for my son. Along with not having learned to be alone, in many ways I have never grown up. I need to learn to put my responsibilities first—to do what I need to do before I do what I want to do. I need to have a better work ethic.

3. Find my job niche. I eventually want to work on my own, but until I am well on my way to completing number 2, that will never succeed. So for now, I want to find a job where I’m at now that I enjoy doing. I want to go to work and not have it feel so much like a job.

4. Get healthy. I’m on my way to my mid–thirties. I’m overweight, and my diabetes is nowhere near under control. I need to own that, instead of run from it and wish I didn’t have it. I am looking for a place to learn tai chi, and I need to start eating right. Otherwise I may not make it to 50.

Thank you for this. Thank you for the opportunity to work these things out. I need to post these somewhere where I won’t lose sight of them.

BTW, I’ve been in a band. In another lifetime I toured the world playing keyboards in an Air Force show band. It was one of the best experiences in my life. Good luck!

I think my current lifestyle project would be to really work hard on my blogazines and see what happens Next. I always like to plan and really focus on that plan in order to achieve it, but lately things are happening randomly, so I guess, the thing is…nothing is really planned in life…

My lifestyle project? Hmmm… Where to begin? I am one of those people who has 90 different things rolling around in their head at any given moment so my projects can range from re-arranging my living room to creating my first YouTube video and everything that would fall in between. To keep things in check, I created two documents: one is My Manifestation List which keeps me focused on the bigger picture and the other is my modified About Me page on my blog that shows my current projects, my mood and goals I’ve set for the immediate future. I guess on top of all of that, my main goal is to balance my desire to “be all I can be” with the serenity of simply living in the Now. :)

8 Canary4life October 19, 2008 at 12:09 pm

I’m currently working on becoming a proffesional footballer (or soccer player, for you Americans).

9 Chris November 2, 2008 at 12:28 pm

@Patric – Thanks. It is good to plan so that you know where you want to be. Thanks for stopping by and good look with your blogazines.

@Shafar – Just a few then! Thanks. Good look with your projects!

@Kate – Thanks. Really like your about me page idea! You’ve a lot going on. You main goal sounds excellent and I wish you all the best.

@Canary4life – Cool. Thanks. Sounds like a focused goal, the best of luck to you!

I’m working on a mobile lifestyle project. With a mobile internet device, you can know anything, find anything, talk to anyone, share, learn, be creative and discover new opportunities.

Before long, we will be living the mobile lifestyle — thanks to our mobile phones.

11 Sal November 18, 2008 at 2:47 pm

Chris,

It seems like our goals are somewhat the same. I too am trying to earn a living without having to work 40 hours a week for the next 40 years. Freelancing will hopefully be the beginning point for that followed by coaching. As far as life goes, getting back into shape would be my biggest personal project, and of course, when married, keeping that relationship fresh and a clear path for communication is always a project in itself. Thanks for asking!

12 Jennifer Ryan November 18, 2008 at 3:25 pm

Great question!

1. I’m building my existing Private Practice (Psychotherapy) to run mostly without me by hiring other Counselors and Interns.

2. I’m building a new association that will be “The Ivy League of Mental Health Experts” whereby I hand-pick the best of the best in the field their an expert in.

Both of these projects are in an effort to contain, and even deepen my status as a part time stay-at-home mom to twin toddlers, part-time Counselor/Psychotherapist, and part-time traveler!

Thanks for asking. =) Interesting to see others comments as well.

13 Christopher November 18, 2008 at 3:26 pm

1.) continue to practice more and improve on guitar (actually part of my “job”)
2.) read more
3.) Lift heavier stuff! (400lbs squat, 300ish bench by the end of next year)
4.) continue with my blog, turning it into one of the biggest influences in internet classical guitar resources.

14 JoAnneBarton November 18, 2008 at 3:30 pm

I too, am working on several areas of my life.

Financial
Spiritual
Communjity
Home

I have been working on building a Virtual Assistant pratice, although in the last week, I’ve felt a tug on my heart to do teaching/training/coaching – still defining that. Still deciding if using the VA practice to help us financially and then ransition to the other.

15 Ariel November 18, 2008 at 4:28 pm

I’m a student at MIT. Basically my Lifestyle Project is just trying to survive here by figuring out how to manage my time and learn more efficiently.

16 Chris November 18, 2008 at 5:17 pm

@Jay Oatway – Sounds good. That’s why I love my iPhone! ;) Good luck.

@Sal – Sounds like a nice focused plan to me. A lot of people on hear share common goals. The best of luck to you!

@Jennifer Ryan – Sounds like you have some interesting stuff going on there! Best of luck to you.

@Christopher – nice name ;) I wish I could play guitar as part of my job. All sounds like great projects – I’ll keep my eye on them

@JoAnneBarton – Follow your dreams! Good luck.

@Ariel – Hopefully my blog can help a bit with that. I think it will be great for your future if you pick up the correct habits now. Best of luck to you!

17 Scott November 18, 2008 at 11:31 pm

My first and foremost Life Project is to stay sober as I am a recovering alcoholic. 9 months the 25th of Nov! I’m sure this project will last until the end.

Second is my relationship with God, which I “had” growing up, but never “GOT” until this year. And boy did it hit me like a ton of bricks. Another constant project.

Third is my blog, which is in the middle of it’s second month and growing strong I feel.
The first two is enough to keep a fellow busy, but I’ll pick up more as time passes I’m sure.

Thanks for letting me share!

18 Rebecca November 19, 2008 at 3:44 am

Quitting drinking about 10 months ago has really made a huge impact on my life.
I’ve lost weight, gotten healthier in general, focused on personal development, started blogging and twittering and facebooking, cooking at home, started a progressive weight training program at the gym and I am enjoying life more overall.

In the next couple of months I’m moving to a very small island in the Pacific for a very cool job that I am hoping will provide me many more opportunities in the future. It’s an incredible experience that has required me to sacrifice much. I’ve sold all of my belongings (I mean all) and given my dog away (to a great lady that loves him very much). Just me and my clothes and my cat, that’s all that goes forward with me on my next adventure.

Always growing, always changing, always learning….that’s the goal anyway.

19 Wilma Ham November 19, 2008 at 4:15 am

My lifestyle project is our on line education program and design and build a woman friendly yacht and live how we teach.
The world is such a playground, can you imagine sailing on a yacht with a lifting keel to create shallow draft AND with the best interior that is designed by moi.
This lifestyle project also requires to get over fear, get over impossible and go to possible, get the best relationship you can imagine and voila, life is lived how it is supposed to.
AND we are getting there.

20 Sarah November 19, 2008 at 1:03 pm

My lifestyle project is to get into out of my apartment and into a condo sooner rather than later. I tend to be excellent and spending but horrible and saving so my goal for the first half of 06 is to pay off my credit card and then for the second half of the year, to put the large monthly payments I was sending to my credit card into a savings account since hopefully by then I will have become accustomed to living without that money. Here’s hoping!

21 Starflake November 20, 2008 at 5:18 pm

A few lifestyle projects I am currently working toward:

Fitness: regular exercise (min 3 x’s per week) and healthier meals (incorporating veg*n nutrition).

Career: pay off remaining student loans; pursue further education and niche.

Arts/Crafts/Etc: continuous projects… relatively long-term priority: polish/publish books

Mental/Emotional: lifelong learning; continue on path of still silent inner peace in present moment, healing, love, balance.

My most strenuous journey has been forgiveness (as espoused in Dick Lourie’s poem, read in part here: http://tinyurl.com/54vf7d). Whether or not to “say it” or reconcile when the person is unrepentant is the question. Philosophically, I wonder: if a being is unconscious, does he/she deserve blame? Is anything truly personal? To what degree does responsibility extend?

22 Naomi November 20, 2008 at 8:04 pm

My lifestyle projects are many – creatively building my business, networking, getting shape, catching up on all that reading, getting out of debt…! But the big new one I have on my radar for 2009 is an attempt at the “100 mile diet”. I don’t plan to do it exclusively, but I would like to try it for maybe one week at a time, or one day a week… something along those lines. I’m reading “Plenty” in preparation, then I plan to start a Yahoo group and invite others in my area to join me in discovering locally sourced foods!

23 FrugalNYC November 20, 2008 at 9:38 pm

Hi Chris,

Currently working on my blogs http://frugalnyc.blogspot.com/ and http://frugaltech.blogspot.com/. I’m working to make it income producing so I can be self employed, and hopefully even employ others in the future. Spending quality time with the family is always important. On the Health side, I really need to get more excercise as I get older.

Thanks for coming by my blog and following on twitter.

24 Chris November 20, 2008 at 10:56 pm

@Scott – Well done on hitting 9 months. Keep it up. Good luck with your young blog, stick at it you’ll get there.

@Rebecca – Wow you’ve achieved a lot in the last 10 months. Moving to a small Pacific island sounds great. I really like you approach, always growing, changing and learning – good stuff.

@Wilma Ham – The yacht sounds like a really interesting project. Well done for getting there with it, good luck for the future.

@Sarah – That sounds like a focused project you can put all your effort in to and get some great results. Go for it!

@Starflake – I like the way you have split your projects out in to key areas of your life. There’s a lot going on but it all looks great. As for forgiveness, all I can say is I live by the “Life’s too short…” approach.

@Naomi – Just Googled (what did we ever do without it) the 100 mile diet. That sounds like an awesome and very worthwhile project. The best of luck with it.

@FrugalNYC – Thanks for stopping by. You projects are similar to mine, keep going and remember you get out what you put in! Good luck.

25 Mark McManus November 21, 2008 at 5:31 pm

Just completed 1 year of blogging and will continue to work on popularizing the blog. I may:
write another book
make a DVD – that would be exciting
Start an online coaching program

Helping people is very rewarding, and of course, a win/win situation.

Either way, it would be nice to live a life free of a 9 – 5 job. I believe that will happen but I’m not in a hurry. When it happens it happens – I’m happy :D

26 Chris November 21, 2008 at 5:44 pm

@Mark McManus – Thanks for stopping by, I’m a big fan of your blog as you know! Quitting the 9-5, you’re in good company on here, I’m sure you’ll make that goals soon with the progress of your blog so far. DVD, coaching programme and more books all sound like great ideas! Best of luck to you, and thanks for your blog’s insights.

27 _gary_ November 22, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Family life is moving into focus as we are expecting our first child! Unbelievably excited! Otherwise, my current career goals can be summed up by “Do what you love, love what you do.” -Gary

28 jennifer hartman November 25, 2008 at 2:38 pm

Nice idea you have here.

My lifestyle project is helping people get out of debt and start saving for their retirement. We have a turn key system that helps people track their money and teaches them how to use other peoples money (the bank’s) to cancel out interest charges. Check it out or just read about some of the clients that we are helping. http://www.ufirstretirement.com
Good luck
Jennifer

29 Dan November 28, 2008 at 1:26 am

1) Earn an income without a 9-5 job.
2) Live a Nomadic Lifestyle, Country Hopping.
3) Publish Ebook project.
4) Get out of debt and never get back in.

30 Chris November 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

@_gary – Focusing on your family at the moment certainly sounds like the best thing you can do and I’m sure it will be very rewarding! Career goal is exactly what I’m looking for. Good luck to you!

@Jennifer Hartman – Saving for retirement is certainly important. What about mini retirements in the short term, what are you views on that? Thanks for stopping by and good luck!

@Dan – All sound great. I think your goals are also complimentary so hopefully they will all be achievable for you. Have you read Vagabonding by Rolf Potts? Check it out. Good luck to you!

31 Egor November 28, 2008 at 11:56 pm

My completed projects:
1. Loose weight and be healthy. Done. From 87kg to 68kg, regularly training in CrossFit gym in Sydney.
2. Get out of debt. Done. I still have one credit card but I never use it.

My current project is to go to Paris with my wife to celebrate our 10 years marriage anniversary. Unfortunately, because of completed project number 2 we don’t have enough money for that but I am working on it…

Egor.

32 leesmiep December 1, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Hi Chris,

I’m trying to get back on the productivity (GTD) wagon again, got all my stuff in RTM again (I hope)… and work hard on decluttering every aspect of my life.

Guess I should be working on more self-discipline….

33 Chris December 1, 2008 at 12:31 pm

@Egor – Well done on the weight loss that’s excellent! Best of luck working on the Paris project, it’ll be worth it!

@leesmiep – Self discipline is key. Good luck getting back into GTD but don’t be a slave to it!

34 Sharlyn Lauby December 1, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Hi Chris. Here are my lifestyle projects. Thanks for asking!
1. Living a healthy lifestyle (exercise and diet)

35 Eli December 1, 2008 at 2:26 pm

My lifestyle project is working on achieving the master degree in archeology, I’m currently in the process of establishing my dissertation topic. I have a personal blog that I created just to clear my mind: http://motivandome.blogspot.com/
I also seek to learn how to organize time, so that I don’t leave stuff for the last minute and actually get things done.
I enjoy leisure reading, having time to do that is also one of my priorities.
I just recently found this website, seems like it has lots of advice that can help me, thanks!

36 Connect with your Teens December 1, 2008 at 6:37 pm

My project is to keep growing my blog, Connect with your teens through Pop Culture and Technology. I started it 8 1/2 months ago and it has continually grown in readers, links and rankings. It has become much more important to me than I ever thought it would. it has practically taken over my life, but I love it so I’m happy.

37 JP Flores December 1, 2008 at 10:28 pm

1. be a great husband to my wife and dad to my kids.
2. transition out of my current career and earn a living in the triathlon/multisport industry
2. continue to develop and improve as an athlete and coach.

38 Wendy December 2, 2008 at 7:07 pm

Personally – I’ve achieved one of my life goals in the past 18 months to lose 40+ pounds – this that – went from a 16 to an 8! WOW!

My Lifestyle Project: As I’m working with the Founder of the company I work for on marketing, I’d like to be able to write my own job description and make my way in this career I am establishing in the online marketing/social media arena.

I have found a job which I am truly passionate about and an employer who I truly believe in. I want to share that with as many as I can!

Also – to live by the golden rule and always Pay it Forward!

Thanks for listening!

39 Gina December 3, 2008 at 6:54 am

Great fun Chris!
Let’s see…I had to run in to look at my “Big Board” to see exactly where I am at…I’ll give you the top 5 items on the career section (the section most cluttered with sticky notes)of my Big Board.
1)To be out of the 9-5 JOB mode for good
2)To have the website buff enough to actually put out there
3)To know where out there is
4)To help along the way those who can use my expertise
5)To find people who get what I do and can help me find my way through the plethora of web info and laser focus on what will help my type of business

Ahhh that felt good Chris, Mahalo!

Aloha, Gina

40 iMarketingBlog December 3, 2008 at 3:33 pm

Hello there Chris!

My lifestyle project, is to be my own boss.
My ultimate goal is to be able to build a semi-passive income, so I can finance all of my projects with how much I’ll need.

One of my greatest hobbies is to develop good idea’s, but I don’t have the money to complete them yet.

Another goal I have, is to help people making real money online with my help.
Even if I don’t make a dime from them, it’s extremely rewarding and motivational to me.

I also want to build up my blog a lot, so people actually go there and request information about what they want, and need to know.

– Preben
P.S. Twitter me!

41 Alex Fayle | Someday Syndrome December 5, 2008 at 7:16 am

What a great idea – having people share their projects!

Mine are:

1) Turn my blog into a mentoring business (getting rid of the word Someday)
2) Become a multiple-book published author
3) Improve my Spanish so that it’s easier to live here in Spain

There are a million other little ones, but these are the biggies.

42 Chris December 5, 2008 at 9:36 am

@Sharlyn Lauby – Thanks for sharing. Acquiring a company sounds interesting, I wish you all the best with that. Do make time for your hobby! Good luck.

@Eli – Thanks for your kind comment. Hopefully learning to organise your time will help with your degree! The best of luck to you.

@Connect with your Teens – Good luck with you blog, and I am glad you are enjoying it!

@JP Flores – Thanks for sharing. They should like good focused projects, good luck following your dreams.

@Wendy – Wow! Well done on the weight loss. Sounds like you have some interesting things going on – the best of luck to you!

@Gina – Some worthy goals I can relate to there. Glad sharing felt good, good luck maintaining your focus to achieve your goals.

@iMarketingBlog – Sounds like you are pretty focused on what you want to do. The great thing about making a business online is that the financial costs are much lower (but the time costs are high!). The best of luck to you.

@Alex Fayle – Thanks for sharing – I’m glad you have focused on the biggies! Good luck with your blog and your writing (and the being better at Spanish sounds like a good idea if you live there!).

43 Wendy December 5, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Chris,

To dovetail on what I started the other day – you got me thinking, and through some ongoing conversations recent months with a colleague I started my own blog in which I intend to share as much passion for work and life as I can with as many people as I can – I suppose that could be considered a lifestyle project!

Check it out! http://passionate-evolution.blogspot.com/ Thanks!

Wendy

44 Jay December 6, 2008 at 2:58 pm

Too many people, especially co-workers assume you are living your lifestyle project. It is because they have already given up on their dreams- sad!!

Mine is to become a full-time writer both through the blogging medium and book deals which I will get in the next year, but I also will write that novel that is in my noodle. I think we all have one great story to tell! I also want to save the world from accepting the limitations they put on themselves! We all have so much more potential than we realize.
Most important I want to eradicate this quote from describing my life:

“The greatest waste in the world is the difference between who we are and who we can become”.

Thanks Chris for your great site, and giving us all the chance to answer this question of the heart!!

45 Chris December 8, 2008 at 9:27 pm

@Wendy – Nice to have inspired you in at least some way! Let me know if you need any help with anything.

@Jay – I’m glad you seem to be living your life your way and have your goals clearly in sight. Go for it!

46 PJ_Normz December 9, 2008 at 12:36 pm

2. Buy a Nikon D700 with a lot of accessories.

Wish me luck!

Good luck to all of you! :)
