This is hard for me to answer because I feel like I have so many. Here are my top ones right now:

1. Get my blog off the ground
2. Graduate
3. get back in the bc jeans (before child)
4. get my dream job in San Fran, or a job equally as fantastic for after graduation
5. Finish my independent study

2 Chris December 22, 2008 at 1:24 pm

@Pj_Normz – Some nice focused goals there. The best of luck to you! Black Belt sounds cool.

@Boril – Sounds like some great stuff there. Is moving to Switzerland a longer term goal? The location independent lifestyle is certainly something I am interested in too. Good luck!

@Mp3 Affirmations – Wow! A lot going on, don’t wear yourself out. Some of these seem like principles to live by, whereas some seem like goals. I imagine a lot of these are habits you either have or want to create. Maybe break them down in to smaller focus and you won’t burn out. Good luck to you!

@Coral M – You are moving to Australia – cool! Be happy, well I think that your goals sound like that one should be easy if you work hard at the others. Good luck!

@Han Haneef – “Expert Barbeque Cook” – a noble goal, that sounds great! You seem to have some focus there, I’m sure you’ll do well. You are thinking Big – I like that. Best of luck to you!

@Lu – I see you say you have so many, but you have managed to focus here which is really key to getting to where you want to be. Good luck with all your pro

Well, Chris, here goes:

1. I want to get in better physical shape than what I left highschool in. That will take some effort considering I’ve had 2 children and I was in pretty good shape when I graduated in 1998.

2. I want to find something I can be truly passionate about and then pursue it as a career or even a hobby.

3. I’d like to get out of debt. I’m working on that on right now.

4. Finish my bachelors. I keep having trouble staying in school due to the yearly increases in tuition. One semester I’m in, the next I’m out.

5. Start my own business.

6. Saving to build my own house for my husband, children, and my parents. I may even have to add on some additional space for my mother-in-law.

7. I want to fill up my passport with stamps from all over the world.

4 Laura January 4, 2009 at 7:49 pm

Hi Chris

1. Live a simple life
2. Move To Portugal in 2012

Great site :)

5 Chris January 5, 2009 at 10:50 am

@Dene’ – They all sound like excellent projects. Are in priority order as there is a lot of big ones there! The besdt of luck to you!

@Laura – Well you are doing well on the simple life with 2 very focused simple goals! Go for it! Good luck.

Professional: I’m trying to make a successful and useful library website.

Free time: I blog and follow a number of blogs and websites about technology, librarianship and personal growth. The goal here is to use what I learn and share my own views about it.

Personal: To overcome my self imposed limitations and break bad thought patterns and habits.

7 Gina January 13, 2009 at 5:19 am

Hi Chris, What a great page, I spent a good 20 minutes reading other people’s responses (bad time management but I couldn’t help it!)

-My main lifestyle project is to become location independent and financially independent in 2009, I am not adding anymore because my other project is to follow through with everything I say…and the above will definitely be time consuming and exciting!

-My partner and I also just started 4hwwexperiment.com to keep track of our steps and progress – and my other project would be for people to use our examples as a step by step guide to do the same for themselves.

Okay two more…

-Learn Spanish to a conversational point

-Learn to play 5 campfire appropriate songs on guitar

8 Chris January 13, 2009 at 12:10 pm

@Darko – I like the way you have both Professional and Personal goals there with a clear division. Good luck with your projects.

@Gina – Thanks, it’s certainly interesting to see what people are up to. Good luck with your blog, let me know if you need any help. I too want to learn Spanish, and despite playing the guitar for over a decade probably don’t know any appropriate campfire songs! Good luck!

I guess my Lifestyle project is to make this my year of gratitude. With everything that’s going wrong in the world, I need to focus on what’s right in my life. I’m making a conscious effort to be aware of the small things, and take the time to be grateful for them.

10 Mike January 18, 2009 at 9:08 pm

Okay Chris,

I too have many areas of my Lifestyle that I’m working on hard. And here are my main goals for the next six months:

- Having a new website for Lifestyle Design courses
- Being much better at English
- Doing at least 6 presentation within the next 6 months

- Having a new “Relax” Room
- Being a better cook
- Cleaning-up my basement

This are just a few of my goals I have for the next 6 months. All of my Lifestyle goals, and the way I put them together you can see HERE if you want. There’s also a clean PDF for download at http://lifestyledesign.ch/downloads/.

11 Chris January 21, 2009 at 9:07 am

@Ramona – That sounds like an excellent Lifestyle Project. Sometimes we get too caught up in striving for the next greatest thing, without stopping to “smell the roses” along the way.

@Mike – You see to have things well thought out and planned! I’d say your English is excellent. Good luck with your projects!

12 Doug Lampi January 23, 2009 at 4:06 pm

I’m pretty much living my lifestyle dream and enjoying the unfolding of it!

I work from home, set my own hours, learn new things every day and only work with people who are positive.

Most significantly, I study with Abraham-Hicks.com for an hour or two each day – everything else has become a breeze – and a great deal of fun!

I earned my university degree because I knew I could. I became a Black Belt because I knew I could – and I taught for 20 years. I quit my job and started my business, because I knew I could. This summer I will race my first Triathlon…. next?

You also can have, or be, or do – anything you desire. It’s true.

:-)

Great to meet you @Lifestyle_Proj

Cheers!

Right now I’m working on my etsy store, http://www.daniellesdesigns.etsy.com. I make polymer clay jewelry and decoupaged bangles made from recycled paper. My goal for this month is to set a personal record for sales. Right now I’m tied with my best month (last july) at 10 sales, just need one more to break it!!

I’m also going to college, just getting generals done at Anoka Ramsey Community College. My favorite class is guitar, which I’m just starting and I hope to be able to play and write actual songs by the end of the semester!

15 Lifecruiser January 24, 2009 at 2:13 am

Well, right now I’m working on my recovery from the flu. Hard work, makes me exhausted ;-)

We’ve had ended a cleaning project earlier. Compact living lifestyle. Emptied the basement, many of the cupboards, closets etc at home. Sold a lot of stuff that we never used, it was just laying around. That paid for some of our trips actually. That was nice.

This year we both have to work on our fitness a bit, to get muscles to support our bodies better, to avoid ache.

We’re also gonna try to cook as cheap as possible, without giving after too much on the food quality. No eating out if possible to avoid it. To save money.

All this because we wanna travel as much as possible. We’re going to search for best deals for every trip and choose quite cheap alternatives, no luxury trips, many times stay at hostels if possible, flying with low budget airlines to be able to do more trips.

It depends on the destination of course, if it’s possible or not.

We’ll even begin research for places to visit next year or even the year after that! Long staying alternatives to escape the winter which is not good for our health.

It’s all about travel now, the big love we already have :-)

Life is here for us to ENJOY….

16 Peter Carey January 26, 2009 at 5:36 am

Right now I’m working on kicking my freelance writing, photography and adventure lifestyle into gear. I’ve been playing around for a bit but now it’s time to get down to work.

If I had a list, it’d look something like:
- Build up blog readership to 200 by summer and 400 for Photo Of The Day feature by summer.
- Contribute regularly to organic review site
- Stay in shape
- move and get on with life.

17 Chris January 26, 2009 at 9:51 am

@Doug Lampi – Thanks for sharing Doug. Nice to meet you too. Great to hear that you are already living your lifestyle dream.

@Danielle – Good luck with your store, keep at it. Stick at the guitar too – I love playing, one day it will just click and you be able to play away.

@Char – Love the simplicity of your works. Go for it!

@Lifecruiser – Hope you feel better. You are organised on your travel plans aren’t you! Shows how it is your passion and you make priority of it. Good luck with your other projects too – the pay off will be worth it. Thanks for stopping by!

@Peter Carey – You seem to have focus in what you want to achieve which is great. Just need to get the action habit and move it forward. Good luck!

18 Laura Byrne Paquet January 26, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Hi Chris,

My project at the minute (actually, it has been my project for a couple of years) is to get some control over my work hours.

Because I work at home, it’s all too tempting to drift into my office first thing in the morning (as I have this morning!), pick at work all day, then sit at my desk until late into the evening (as I did last night). My goal is to take at least three weeknights and one whole weekend day off each week.

Eventually, I’d like to be at a point where I’m not working nights or weekends at all, but I know that’s not realistic at the minute. Small steps!

I’ve had some success in the last year or so, but I’m not nearly where I want to be, so I want to maintain the momentum.

Thanks for asking me to submit and for starting this site.

Cheers,
Laura

19 Chris January 26, 2009 at 1:16 pm

@Laura – Thanks for sharing your project. It is a worthy one. Make sure that you are priorisiting your work and eliminating unnecessary activities. Take a look at what you do and concentrate on the 20% of effort that generates the 80% of results. Go for it!

20 Amber's Crazy Bloggin' Canuck January 26, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Like everyone else, I am definitely a work in progress! For a number of years, I worked as a publicist in the ski/outdoor industry while freelancing as an adventure-travel writer. I quit it all cold turkey when I got married and had kids and started a social network/blog for The Denver Post called Mile High Mamas, which I still do today.

However, I still have travel writing in my blood so have started taking family travel writing assignments. I have been thrilled to connect with many travel writers on Twitter and definitely have a lot to learn about travel blogging!

21 Jenn Garcia January 26, 2009 at 10:41 pm

Hi Chris and all-

My husband just took a job in Abu Dhabi, so I recently left my corporate job in NYC so that I can move there with him next month. I am taking this huge lifestyle change as the perfect opportunity to assess my life goals- I want to make my love of travel an integral part of my personal and professional life- for now I have a blog:

http://www.thepurplepassport.blogspot.com

But I’m thinking about bigger projects to come!

22 Helen T February 3, 2009 at 8:59 pm

Great site, my lifestyle projects are

1) To get a better balance by getting to work from home on the website for at least half my working week

2) To discover the best flour for gluten free bread

3) To keep a happy homelife, so Dr T never regrets turning up

23 Gennaro February 5, 2009 at 12:59 am

1. Being fully ‘present’ with family and friends

2. Inspire travel (especially authentic travel) with my website

3. Do the things that I love…no matter what.

24 Chris February 12, 2009 at 9:57 am

@Amber – Sounds great as you say you have travel writing in your blood, so you know you have a passion for it. Best of luck with the blogging side of things! Thanks for sharing.

@Jenn Garcia – Sometimes it takes a major life event such as this to kick people in to gear. Best of luck with your projects.

@Helen T – Some simple, but focused projects there. I like how you are focusing on life:work balance. Go for it!

@Gennaro – I like the idea of being ‘present’ which is a concept I am exploring myself at the moment. I love “do the things that Iove…no matter what.” great concept! Thanks for sharing!

25 Nik February 14, 2009 at 3:23 pm

Hi Chris,

First off, thanks for asking. Felt good just to be typing this down, and definitely a good motivation for me to work hard on my goals. I have to admit that… I didn’t read the whole 100+ replies, just the first few and last few.. so a special shoutout to Gennaro and Jenn Garcia. I’ve stumbled over their site on my recent online adventure, so cheers~ =)

My goals would be as follows:

1. Start my own location-independent business.

Currently, I am helping my Dad out with the family business, but unfortunately it’s not something I enjoy very much. I’ve only started helping out the past few months, but I have already mentioned that I will not be staying past the two years mark. Why two years? While I don’t enjoy this job very much, the good thing is that it is still a personal family business. That gives me tons of leeway in that I am able to smooch away time off work to spend on my personal projects.

Right now there are two of this personal projects that I am working on. One is a travel site focusing on Asia-related contents that you can find at http://unearthingasia.com – only been open the past month or so.

Another is my service provider career in the web and graphic design industry. I’ve worked in design studios previously, but never really pursued my freelance career just yet.

2. Travel more.

Doesn’t need too much explanation here now, doesn’t it? =)

3. Settle down.

I’m a family man at heart. So in the end I’d like to come back to Singapore, where my current girl-friend is and be with her (we’re separated by a small ocean, one hour flight away from each other).

26 Chris February 15, 2009 at 8:15 pm

@Nik – Thanks for sharing your projects. Sound great. I understand that not staying with your family business could be difficult, but sounds like you have a good plan. I love your other projects too. I’m setting out on a similar path – check out my new blog http://www.worldtroubadour.com for travel stuff! I’ll take a look at your site now!

27 stinagrace February 19, 2009 at 10:24 pm

My Lifestyle Project is DEFINITELY to travel more!

Also, I’m training for an Olympic Distance Triathlon… no set date yet-just a future goal.

28 DaveO February 19, 2009 at 10:25 pm

- Fix my injuries
- Make a million
- Quit work and then win an ironman

I am combining all my passions into my “Digital Nomad Project”. Living the life of the Digital Nomad is exciting, life changing, and full of great experiences.

I also want to help others become Digital Nomads too. First part of the project is “Money Makes Travel Fun”. Here you can learn how to make money while traveling. I made a free eCourse that you can follow at:

If you are a Digital Nomad too, I would like to get in touch with you!

Happy Traveling

About 2 yrs ago, my husband, daughter and I sold everything and started traveling. Finally, we made our way to Salta, Argentina, where we are living and working in a sustainable development community.

I also about to embark on a new web-art project.

Glad to meet you and looking forward to hearing more about you and your projects as well.

All good things,
Leigh

32 Gray March 1, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Thanks for asking, Chris!

I’d like to have a way to earn a living from any location I choose. I currently live in Vermont and hate winter, so I’d love to be able to work remotely from someplace warm during the winter months. I love to travel and I love to write, so I’d like to find work that involves those two passions. My current job does not. I started my travel blog so I’d have that creative outlet, even if it is just on the side for now. And I’d like to have the money and time to travel more than I currently do.

Gray

33 Chris March 2, 2009 at 4:40 pm

@stinagrace – Sound like great projects! A person after the same sort of things as me. Good luck!

@DaveO – You’re focused anyway! Perhaps you can live a millionaire lifestyle without having a million – which is one of the cornerstone philosophies of the Four Hour Work Week. Good luck!

@davitydave – Good luck.

@Richard – Good luck with your project – a digital nomadic lifestyle is something I’m aiming for too.

@Leigh Shulman – Wow! Sounds like you’re living your dreams there. The best of luck to you.

@Gray – Another location independent project! Good luck to you and good luck with your blog.

34 Peter March 4, 2009 at 8:12 pm

Well done to everyone striving to get a better deal out of life!

My Lifestyle Project is: http://www.MyFriendsHotel.com – it’s a ‘friends of friends’ accommodation network allowing like-minded people to meet in the real world. It’s based around, People, Groups, Events and Recommendations.

Check it out and help me to live the dream…!

Smart move asking for people to comment after you follow them!

Just closed my import/distribution business last month after about six years running it virtually–first from the US, then from Mexico and for the last three years from Argentina. I am done with selling “stuff”.

My lifestyle project now is learning how to market and sell information. First project is my wife’s book The New Global Student which will be published by Random house this May. We will be back in the US for four months to promote the book which means learning the logistics of a book tour–though it may be more virtual than real.

Best,
Tom

36 Matthew March 6, 2009 at 12:30 pm

I’m using my remaining time in college to grow my blog to the point that it will support my wife and I. More importantly than the financial aspect is that if it does support me, than I am providing value to my readers by aiding them in finding the daily adventure in their lives.

Being supported by the blog means that my wife and I will be able to travel and be location independent (seems to be a theme here). We will continue our travels (currently studying in Ireland for the semester) by exploring new places and taking on new challenges.

37 Mike March 11, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Current life goals:

1) Convince my current company to allow me to work remotely. I’ve set up the office such that I can do 99.9% of my job from anywhere in the world, as long as I have an internet connection. But they like to “see” me everyday so that they believe I’m actually working.

2) Raise money for my daughter’s 12U softball team

3) Be a better dad.

38 Chris March 11, 2009 at 9:52 pm

@Peter – Good look with your site!

@tom – Well done on the location independent business and good luck in your new ventures.

@Matthew – I hope all your dreams come true. Building a blog isn’t easy, but if you work hard and believe in it you will get there.

@Mike – That sucks. I could do my job remotely too but it just won’t cut it in a lot of companies will it. Good luck with your projects!

39 Overland Si March 12, 2009 at 1:57 pm

My projects are currently:
a) make some money out of the blog as I have been promising myself I will for ages
b) sell my car and get the van I need to go travelling in two weeks!!!!!
c) Complete my Microsoft accreditation when I get back so that I can run my own business
d) fill out all the paperwork sat by me to start my own company.
e) Remember that this world is all just made up, smile at the realisation of this and remain happy.

Some brilliant projects here folks, If you want to follow my travels please go to http://overlandwannabe.co.uk

Thanks and the best of luck to all of you.

40 Christine March 20, 2009 at 5:15 pm

My husband,9yr old son and I moved from Scotland to Bavaria, Germany in December 2008. We decided we were just paying out money every month (tax, council tax etc)and not really seeing anything for it.

We had been to Bavaria several times visiting in-laws and loved the slower pace of life and just general “niceness” so we decided last year that hubby would start looking for a job in Bavaria and see what happens. Long story cut short we have now been here for nearly 4 months, hubby is loving his new engineering job, son is settling into a german school learning the langauage and I am (at the moment)concentrating on having quality time with my son and also learning the language. Not too sure what my exact project is yet but having a better way of life, maybe teach english and having more quality time as a family is the jist of it.

Hope I havent rattled out a load of rubbish! lol

43 Family on Bikes April 12, 2009 at 8:51 pm

My lifestyle project is to see the world from the seat of my bicycle with my family!! the four of us – Mom, Dad, and 11-year-old twin boys – are currently riding our bicycles from Alaska to Argentina. At this point we’ve cycled 8000 miles from Alaska to Honduras and have learned more than we ever could have imagined!

Hi Matt,

My wife and I are currently working on a one year plan to move to a new country and start a new career. I am blogging about our plans on http://www.jetsetcitizen.com. Our deadline is April 2010.

We currently live in Japan, which is a cool country but we want to experience more of the world. Our current focus is to try and shift our business online.

We are excited about the change but it is also a little scary giving up a good business and lifestyle for something unknown.

45 George June 7, 2009 at 2:04 am

My blog explains my plan, but I am really pushing to make some extra cash online, maybe via my blog, or writing a book about the whole adventure. We will see. I dig what you are doing on your site. Keep it up and good luck!

46 Carmen June 18, 2009 at 7:31 pm

Well, I’m hot and heavy in the middle of living out my plan. I leave in 2 days for a year abroad with my 3 kids beginning in Brazil. I plan to keep my mobile business going (personal and business coaching) and continue developing our NuNomad website to support other people in making this leap to extended world travel. I also plan to publish our second book on the subject this year. I hope to bring my kids a world of experience through travel, enrich all of our lives, stay healthy and have fun!

47 Bianca July 25, 2009 at 7:44 pm

I’m working with my partner and few other amazing people to launch our ME networking group which will allow users to access all information about South Africa’s wine industry, accommodation and dining in one place! In South Africa there is currently no such place on the web, so its a daring project. Our users will be able to order wine online, book accommodation and plan trips together, find out who is visiting at the same time they are,and vote on their favorite experiences, its set to bring people together and really enhance the experiences people have when visiting South Africa.

Besides this I also own and run a national placement agency, assisting local people find local jobs, I love spending time with my family, and running my blog. My Family, my work, South Africa and its people are my Passions in life and we are aiming to share its beauty and potential with the world!
